US News - Improper Stitching Costs Cross Country Team A Title

There are dumb rule violations and then there are dumb rules being violated, and I'm not sure if I've heard of any regulation stupider than the one that cost a Baltimore high school a county cross country championship.

The Hereford boys dominated the Baltimore County championship yesterday, but one of their runners (who finished fourth overall) was disqualified from the race because he was wearing compression shorts under his uniform. Oh, the shorts themselves aren't a problem. (That might even make sense.) It's that the shorts were black, but the stitching on the shorts was white.

Day 3 Colorado State Championships - 16th May, 2009

Kelley and Kat Robinson competed in the 1600m they both ran great races playing to their own strengths. With 200m to go it looked like it might be Kat's turn to take the state championship as she was pulling away looking strong with Kelley chasing furiously.

Unfortunately for Kat she hurt her hamstring with a little more than 100m to go allowing Kelley to sprint well clear of everyone for the victory. All was not lost for Kat as she hung on bravely to finish third looking like she was running on one leg. The Robinson's heroics in the 1600m brought the Nederland girls team into seventh position at the end of the meet.

Congrats to Kat, Kelley and the rest of the team who had a great season and showed up to support their teammates at the state meet.

Day 2 Colorado State Championships - 15th May, 2009

Kat Robinson was the sole Nederland competitor in Day 2 of the 2009 State Championships but she didn't let that effect her.

She finished third in the 800m narrowly missing second by a few hundredths of a second.  She ran a gutsy race from behind to cross the finish in a new personal best of 2:23. She also brought the team total points up to 15 and third place in the team standings after the 800m.

Both Kat and Kelley will be in action tomorrow in the 1600m in the final day of competition.  Congrats and good luck.
